Winter sales in Spain, the rebajas, follow no national calendar: since 2012, each retailer sets its own dates. For winter 2026-2027, no major chain has announced its date yet, but custom puts the start on the day after Epiphany, Thursday, January 7, 2027, with online sales opening on the evening of January 6.

When do winter 2026-2027 sales start in Spain?

The key date is still January 6, the Epiphany public holiday (Día de Reyes). Retailers wait until the gift-giving holiday is over, then cut their prices. In 2026 the pattern was clear: sales opened on apps and websites on the evening of January 6, then in stores on January 7.

As of early November 2026, none of the major chains had confirmed its 2027 calendar, according to the Spanish press. The dates below are the most likely ones, not announced dates. We will update them as soon as the first confirmations come in.

Why is there no official sales date in Spain?

In France, sales dates are set by the State and apply to every retailer. Spain chose the opposite approach. Real Decreto-ley 20/2012 of July 13, 2012 amended article 25 of Law 7/1996 on retail trade: each retailer now decides its own sales periods and how long they last. Several Spanish regions later challenged this liberalization before the Constitutional Court.

In practice, some retailers discount from the first days of January, others run private sales before Christmas, and some sales stretch into March. January 7 is not a legal requirement, just a habit most big names stick to.

Which dates by retailer? What winter 2026 showed

With no 2027 calendar published yet, last season is the best guide. Major retailers tend to repeat the same pattern from one year to the next.

Worth knowing: joining a retailer's loyalty program often gets you a few hours or days of head start, and that head start matters most for sizes and best-selling pieces.

Which Spanish jewelry brands to watch?

Spain has its own jewelry houses, many of them less widely sold abroad. They are the main reason to look closely at the rebajas if you are shopping for jewelry.

• Tous: the Catalan house known for its little bear, widely stocked in Spanish department stores.
• Uno de 50: silver-plated metal jewelry with a raw look, sold in its own stores and at El Corte Inglés.
• PdPaola: a young, fairly minimalist Barcelona brand, very active online.
• Aristocrazy: silver and gold plate, fine lines and charm chains.

During the January 2024 rebajas, the Spanish fashion press reported discounts of up to 50% at brands such as Aristocrazy. The El Corte Inglés jewelry department also brings several of these brands together, which makes comparing easier. Our tip: write down a piece's full price in December. It is the only way to check that an advertised discount is a real one.

France or Spain: which calendar at the border?

Around Perpignan or Hendaye, the two calendars overlap. In France, winter 2027 sales run from Wednesday, January 6 to Tuesday, February 2, 2027 in most of mainland France (details by territory in our winter sales calendar). On the Spanish side, stores usually start the following day but carry on much longer.

The most interesting window is February: French sales are over while Spanish retailers move to their final markdowns. That is often when the remaining jewelry and accessories hit their lowest prices, with a smaller choice as the trade-off.

Who can claim a VAT refund in Spain?

VAT refunds are only open to visitors who live outside the European Union. Shoppers based in France or Belgium are not eligible; UK and Swiss residents are. Since July 2018, Spain has had no minimum purchase amount, unlike France. Ask for the electronic refund form when you pay, then have it validated when you leave the EU. Watch out for refund operators: they charge a commission, so the amount you get back is lower than the VAT you paid.

How to make the most of sales in Spain?

• Make a list in December, with the full price of each piece.
• Download the apps of the retailers you are targeting: they sometimes open before the websites.
• Join customer programs that offer early access.
• Go in the first week for a specific piece, and in February for the lowest prices.
• Check the return policy during sales before paying, especially when buying while traveling.
