Michael Schumacher's Watch Auction: 8 Collector's Watches Sold for Nearly €4 Million
The world of collectors and fine watchmaking enthusiasts was shaken this Tuesday in Geneva by an exceptional auction orchestrated by Christie's. Eight collector's watches belonging to Michael Schumacher, the iconic Formula 1 champion, found buyers for a total amount exceeding 4 million Swiss francs, or nearly 4 million euros. This event marks a significant milestone, coinciding with the thirtieth anniversary of Schumacher's first world championship title.
An Iconic Collection
Michael Schumacher, a passionate collector until his severe skiing accident in December 2013, owned watches of great rarity and priceless value. Two of the timepieces put up for sale on Tuesday are unique pieces manufactured for the F1 driver and given to him as Christmas gifts by Jean Todt, his team principal at Ferrari.
Key Pieces of the Sale
In detail, while some of these watches are unique pieces offered by his former Ferrari boss and close friend Jean Todt, it was the vintage Patek Philippe (Ref. 1518 pink on pink from 1948) that fetched the highest price, at 2,465,000 Swiss francs, or 2,524,160 euros. This rare watch is one of only 58 examples in rose gold and one of 12 with a pink dial, intended for the Latin American market with a day and month calendar in Spanish.
F.P. Journe Vagabondage 1: The pièce de résistance, a Vagabondage 1 from the F.P. Journe house, features a unique dial adorned with the Ferrari emblem and 7 "v"s symbolizing Schumacher's seven F1 world championship titles as well as his helmet. Estimated between 1 and 2 million Swiss francs, it sold for 1.497 million Swiss francs (approximately 1.533 million euros).

F.P. Journe Ruthenium Collection: A rare complete collection of five F.P. Journe Ruthenium pieces, including a presentation box embossed with the driver's name, was also put up for sale. The watches were sold separately but acquired by the same buyer for a total of over 1.7 million Swiss francs (approximately 1.7 million euros).
